杏吧视频 students Caroline Thomas, Julia Ricci, and Victoria VanHout are participating in the Equal Justice Works Rural Summer Legal Corps Fellowships this summer.
According to Equal Justice Work, 鈥渞ural communities across the country often experience significant gaps in access to justice due to low bandwidth at local legal aid organizations and increased travel time to reach the nearest legal aid providers.鈥
As a result, in 2016 补苍诲听聽launched the聽 (RSLC) in an effort to mobilize law students for a summer of service increasing access and capacity for local legal aid providers.
A total of 49 Fellows will provide legal assistance to rural communities in such areas:
Charleston Law student Caroline Thomas is serving at the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia this summer and working on Elder Law and Housing Law.
鈥淚鈥檓 thrilled to share that I鈥檝e started my with the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia,鈥 she wrote in a recent post on LinkedIn. 鈥淭hrough this fellowship, I am looking forward to deepening my commitment to public interest law and gaining hands-on experience advocating for those who need it most. I鈥檓 incredibly grateful for the chance to work alongside passionate advocates and to contribute to meaningful change this summer.
Julia Ricci will be serving at Legal Services of North Florida and Victoria VanHout at 聽Legal Aid of North Carolina, will focus on Disaster and Crisis Law.
VanHout added, 鈥淭his fellowship offers law students an opportunity to connect with civil legal aid organizations nationwide to address critical legal issues facing rural communities. As a I will be able to develop skills by providing legal support to rural area residents in high poverty communities.鈥
杏吧视频 provides experiential learning programs to give students practical, hands-on experience. Students can learn and serve through our clinical partnerships, externships, and more than 150 pro bono sites locally, regionally and nationally.

鈥淏efore this Fellowship, I had no experience navigating many of the concrete, day-to-day tasks in the life of a public interest lawyer. This fellowship allowed me to gain the ability to do all these things, and to do them well, while also making a difference in the lives of clients.鈥 鈥 2024 Student Fellow
The 2024 served 2,892 clients over 15,900 hours of service and spent 7,044 hours on direct legal services and assisted on 1,393 legal cases. In addition, 2,679 individuals served through indirect legal services, such as resources and training. Student Fellows built 171 new community partnerships with local organizations and hosted 209 legal outreach events.

The South Carolina Bar Exam is a two-day Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) is administered over two days, July 29-30.
