The Department of Career Services assists students with career planning and preparation, and works closely with prospective employers to maximize employment opportunities.
Throughout the academic year, Career Services conducts many career-related presentations and panel discussions for students. Topics include writing resumes and cover letters, job search, interviewing, the judicial clerkship process, and overviews of substantive legal practice areas. We welcome employers to participate in our programs.
Our mission is to help students engage in a meaningful job search, to compete as professionals, and to help them make well-informed choices leading to long-term career satisfaction. Career Services is available for individual counseling with students.
The department coordinates on-campus student interviews with employers in the public and private sectors in South Carolina and beyond. These on-campus interview programs are concentrated in the fall for second- and third-year students and in the spring for first-year students.
The ӰƵ prepares students for careers in all areas of legal practice. Regardless of a student’s path after graduation, the law school strives to instill in students the value of public service. All students must complete pro bono legal service under the supervision of a licensed attorney before they graduate. Student matriculating on or June 2019 must complete at least 50 hours of pro bono work. Students matriculating before June 2019 must complete at least 30 hours of pro bono work. The Director of Public Service and Pro Bono develops a wide variety of pro bono opportunities and maintains a list of pre-approved pro bono sites. The Director of Public Service and Pro Bono also counsels students about pro bono opportunities and must approve all student pro bono work not on the pre-approved site list.
